Rimini

the Roman city of the Arch of Augustus and the Bridge of Tiberius, the Malatesta city of the Tempio and Castel Sismondo, and the city of Federico Fellini, with the Fellini Museum, the Fulgor cinema and the Borgo San Giuliano, and a kilometre and a half away the sea of Marina Centro, fifteen kilometres of beach and the new seafront of the Parco del Mare

Rimini is two cities, side by side. Inside the walls is the old town, which is old three times over: Roman, because the via Flaminia ended here and the via Emilia began, and the Arch of Augustus and the Bridge of Tiberius are still standing, and the people of Rimini still cross the bridge on foot; Malatesta, because in the fifteenth century Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta built his castle here and had Leon Battista Alberti remake the church that became the Tempio Malatestiano, the Malatesta Temple; and Fellini's, because Federico Fellini was born here in 1920, went to the Fulgor cinema and told its story in Amarcord, and today Castel Sismondo, the Fulgor and the square between them are the Fellini Museum. Beyond the railway, a kilometre and a half away, is the other Rimini, Marina Centro, the Rimini of the beach establishments, of the Grand Hotel and of the fine sandy beach that runs for kilometres towards Riccione, with the Parco del Mare, the new seafront made of greenery, cycle paths and play areas. In summer, for a family, this is what Rimini is: the sea in the morning, a museum in the cool in the afternoon, the centre, the Borgo San Giuliano and the harbour in the evening, and one day for the parks, Italia in Miniatura at Viserba or Aquafan and Oltremare at Riccione. Around it are the two experiences on this page: San Marino, on Monte Titano, and Santarcangelo di Romagna, the town of Tonino Guerra in the Marecchia valley.

Stops and overnight stays

In Rimini there is no motorhome area of the Comune with facilities. The Comune, on its page about the equipped motorhome areas, updated in July 2026, points out that a motorhome may park in any space it fits in, as long as it stays on its wheels, with no tables or chairs outside and without emptying anything: otherwise it counts as occupying public land, and for camping you go to the equipped areas. The two closest to the centre are private and open all year, day and night: the Settebello car park in via Roma, in front of the Roman Amphitheatre, ten minutes' walk from the Arch of Augustus, and the Marina di Rimini area, inside the marina, on the sea of San Giuliano, the only one the Comune names. Within the municipality there is only one campsite with pitches for motorhomes, the Camper Park Rimini at Miramare, on the southern seafront, open from March to November, for the Immacolata and at Christmas. For the family that wants a swimming pool and entertainment, the big campsites are at Riccione, a quarter of an hour away; to the north, at Igea Marina, there is a row of equipped areas on the seafront. Open all year and quieter, at Santarcangelo, ten minutes' walk from the centre of the town, there is SantarCamper, handy for San Marino too.

Rimini Parking Settebello

the guarded car park for motorhomes, coaches and cars on the open space of the former Settebello cinema, in front of the remains of the Roman Amphitheatre, open 24 hours a day, lit and with cameras, with electricity posts and filling and emptying. It is the stopover closest to the historic centre: the Arch of Augustus is ten minutes' walk away, the station five hundred metres, the sea of Marina Centro one kilometre. You get there by following the signs for the station, from Rimini Nord or from Rimini Sud. There are no toilets or showers: it is a car park, not a campsite

Getting around

Getting around

In Rimini the motorhome stays put and you get about like the people of Rimini: by bicycle along the sea, on the Metromare between Rimini and Riccione, on foot in the centre, which is closed to cars. For San Marino there is the bus from the Arch of Augustus, for Santarcangelo, Cesenatico, Ravenna and Pesaro the regional train.

  • You arrive by the A14 motorway, leaving at Rimini Nord for the trade fair, Viserba, Torre Pedrera and Igea Marina, or at Rimini Sud for Marina Centro, Miramare and Riccione; from the exit you take the statale 16 Adriatica, the ring road that runs parallel to the coast between the railway and the hills. Anyone coming from Bologna and Ravenna can also follow the statale 16 along the coast. The historic centre lies between the statale and the railway, the seaside districts beyond the railway
  • The historic centre and the Borgo San Giuliano are limited traffic zones, ZTL, with thirteen camera gates: since 29 January 2026 the fine, 83 euros, arrives by itself, according to the Comune. Corso d'Augusto (with two gates, one by day and one by night), corso Giovanni XXIII and the entrances to the Borgo San Giuliano (via Marecchia, via Trai and viale Tiberio) are closed day and night, the other gates in morning and afternoon slots or at night. The motorhome stays outside: the Settebello car park is in via Roma, outside the gates
  • The northern seafront is a limited traffic zone in summer: the ZTL of the Parco del Mare Nord, from Rivabella to Torre Pedrera, is in force every day from 1 June to mid September, day and night on most of the seafront, with cameras; in 2026 it ended on 11 September. The southern seafront, from Marina Centro to Miramare, has largely become the Parco del Mare, for pedestrians and cyclists
  • The anti-smog measures: from 1 October 2026 to 31 March 2027, Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 18:30, in the part of the city between the statale 16 and the sea, diesel vehicles up to Euro 4 and petrol vehicles up to Euro 2 may not circulate; on the ecological Sundays and on the days of the emergency measures the ban extends to Euro 5 diesels, according to the Comune. Anyone with a diesel motorhome up to Euro 4 should, in winter, arrive at the Settebello or the Marina in the evening or at the weekend; in summer there is no ban
  • The Metromare is the electric trolleybus on its own lane between Rimini station and Riccione station, in 23 minutes, with 15 stops along the coast, among them Bellariva, Marebello, Rivazzurra, Fiabilandia, Miramare station and the airport. In the Start Romagna winter timetable for 2026-2027, on weekdays, it runs from Rimini from 5:30 to midnight, every quarter of an hour during the day and every half hour early in the morning and in the evening; on Sundays from 6:30. The ticket, according to Start Romagna, costs 2 euros for one zone (60 minutes, for example from Rimini station to Miramare), 3 euros for the whole route (75 minutes), 5 euros for 24 hours, and is also valid on the urban buses of Rimini and Riccione; you buy it at ticket outlets, on WhatsApp with Chat&Go or by paying with your card on board (StarTap). Only folding bicycles are allowed on board. In summer, to get to the beach, there is also the Shuttlemare, the free on-demand shuttle booked with the MyStart app: according to Visit Rimini, which does not give the year, from 2 June to 10 September every day from 9:00 to 21:00
  • The train: Rimini station is five hundred metres from the Settebello car park, on the Bologna-Ancona line and on the line to Ravenna. In the Trenitalia timetable, on a weekday in November 2026, the regional train reaches Santarcangelo in 7-11 minutes (1.60 euros), Riccione in 8-9 minutes (1.60 euros), Cattolica in a quarter of an hour (2.70 euros), Cesenatico in 24-31 minutes (3.70 euros), Pesaro in half an hour (4.50 euros), Ravenna in an hour without changing (5.50 euros) and Bologna Centrale in an hour and a half (11.30 euros). The Rail SmartPass of Start Romagna, according to Visit Rimini, which does not give the year, from 25 euros for three days and 50 for seven, is valid on all Start Romagna buses, on the Metromare and on the regional trains from Cattolica to Ravenna and from Rimini to Castel Bolognese; children up to 4 travel free with an adult
  • For San Marino, go by bus: the Rimini-San Marino shuttle run by Bonelli Bus and Benedettini, all year and every day, leaves from Rimini station and stops at the Arch of Augustus, at Cerasolo, at Dogana (at the outlet too), at Serravalle, at Domagnano and at Borgo Maggiore, and reaches the city of San Marino in about 55 minutes. The ticket from Rimini costs 7 euros, you buy it online, at ticket outlets (Visit Rimini too) or on board if there are seats, and it is best to book it; children taller than one metre pay, and two children under one metre pay a single ticket. In the timetable from 15 September to 7 November 2026 the first bus left the station at 8:00, then at 9:25, 10:40, 11:45, 14:25, 15:40, 17:00 and 19:00
  • By bicycle: Rimini is flat, and the Comune writes that the city's cycle network reaches 202 kilometres. Along the sea the Parco del Mare has taken the place of the road on the southern seafront, between Marina Centro and Miramare, with the cycle path, gardens and spaces for play and sport, and won the ECF Award at Velo-city in 2026; to the north the cycle path runs from Rivabella to Torre Pedrera. In the city there is the Bike Park, the bicycle station with hire, storage and repair of bicycles and charging for electric ones, and there are also Lime's free-floating electric bikes
  • LPG, according to OpenStreetMap: at the Energy Rete station in via Palmiri, towards Miramare, behind the statale; at the Enilive and Vulcan stations on the via Flaminia; at the Q8 and Eni stations on the ring road; at the IP station on the via Emilia near the trade fair; and at the Vulcan and Gep stations at Torre Pedrera, on the road to Igea Marina
  • The surroundings, in kilometres by road from piazza Cavour: the station 1, the Settebello car park 1.5, the Marina di Rimini 2, the trade fair 5, Miramare 7, Riccione 11, Santarcangelo 11, Igea Marina 12, Cesenatico 23, San Marino 24, Cattolica 25, Gradara 30, San Leo 34, Pesaro 42, Ravenna 68

Seeing

Sights

The centre of Rimini can be explored on foot in half a day: the Corso d'Augusto, the Roman decumanus, the main east-west street, runs from the Arch of Augustus to the Bridge of Tiberius by way of piazza Tre Martiri and piazza Cavour, and Castel Sismondo, the Fulgor and the Domus del Chirurgo are a few steps from the Corso. Beyond the bridge is the Borgo San Giuliano; on the other side of the railway, along viale Principe Amedeo, you reach the sea, the Grand Hotel, the harbour and the Parco del Mare. The parks for children are outside the city, at Viserba to the north and at Riccione to the south. Tap a marker on the map to open its entry below.

Bridge of Tiberius and the piazza sull'acqua

Monument · free entry · 44.06364, 12.56380

corso d'Augusto, 47921 Rimini (RN)

the Roman bridge at the end of the Corso d'Augusto, which leads from the centre to the Borgo San Giuliano and is the start of the via Emilia: just beyond it, at the Celle, the via Emilia carried on towards Piacenza and the via Popilia set off towards Ravenna and Aquileia. Augustus began it in 14 AD and Tiberius finished it in 21, as the inscriptions carved on the slabs along the edges of the road say, repeated on both sides. It is in Istrian stone, with five arches that widen towards the middle, where the largest has a span of 10.70 metres, and the piers have cutwaters set at a slant to the road, to cut the current; underneath, a system of wooden piles holds them up. In 552 the Goths tried to cut some of its arches to stop the Byzantine army of Narses, but the bridge held, through floods, earthquakes and wars. On the upstream parapet there are two hollows that look like goat's hooves, and legend has turned it into a devil's bridge, with the devil tricked by San Giuliano. Today it is for pedestrians only. The Marecchia has not flowed under it since 1930, when it was diverted further north: under the bridge there remains a basin of water, with the piazza sull'acqua, the square on the water, the walkway at water level and the footbridge that links the two banks, and next to it the archaeological park "Le pietre raccontano", "the stones tell", with a terrace towards the Marecchia park. In the evening it is one of the most beautiful spots in the city

Arch of Augustus

Monument · free entry · 44.05691, 12.57116

corso d'Augusto, 47921 Rimini (RN)

the gate of the Roman city, where the via Flaminia arrived from Rome and entered the decumanus, today's Corso d'Augusto. The Senate and the Roman people dedicated it to Augustus in 27 BC, as the inscription on the attic says, for the restoration of the Flaminia and of the other great roads of Italy. The opening is 8.84 metres wide and 10.40 high, too wide to be closed with a gate: in time of peace, the peace of Augustus, a gate was not needed. Between the curve of the arch and the Corinthian capitals there are four medallions with gods: facing Rome, Jupiter with the thunderbolt and Apollo with the lyre and the raven, facing the city, Neptune with the trident and the dolphin and Rome with the sword; above the arch, on both faces, the head of an ox, a sign that Rimini was a Roman colony. The battlements on top are not Roman: they were added in the Middle Ages, when the collapsed attic was rebuilt. The houses that hemmed it in were demolished in the 1930s and since then the arch has stood on its own, surrounded by greenery. At the sides, low down, you can still see the remains of the Roman walls

Tempio Malatestiano

Church · free entry · 44.05969, 12.57023

via IV Novembre 35, 47921 Rimini (RN)

the cathedral of Rimini, which the people of Rimini call the Duomo, and one of the key buildings of the Italian fifteenth century. It was the Gothic church of San Francesco, where the Malatesta had themselves buried; from 1447 Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta had it transformed into a monument to himself and his family, entrusting the exterior to Leon Battista Alberti, who clad it like a Roman temple: in the lower part of the façade he repeated three times the pattern of the Arch of Augustus, and along the sides he set a row of arches for the sarcophagi of the court dignitaries. It was meant to end with a great rotunda and a dome like that of the Pantheon, which was never built: after Sigismondo's excommunication, in 1460, the works stopped, and the upper part of the façade was left unfinished. Inside, the chapels are by Matteo de' Pasti and Agostino di Duccio, with the reliefs of the zodiac, the liberal arts and children's games, the marble elephants that support the pillars, and everywhere the intertwined letters S and I, the rose and the Malatesta coats of arms; there are the tombs of Sigismondo and of Isotta degli Atti. There are also two masterpieces: the Crucifix by Giotto, painted around 1300 during his stay in Rimini, on the high altar, and the detached fresco by Piero della Francesca, from 1451, with Sigismondo kneeling before San Sigismondo, in the last chapel on the right. The bombs of the war destroyed the apse and the roof, and the façade was taken apart and put back together stone by stone. Castel Sismondo

Castle · paid entry · 44.05960, 12.56362

piazza Malatesta, 47921 Rimini (RN)

the fortress that Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta, lord of Rimini from 1432 to 1468, began building in 1437, at the hour set for him by the court astrologers, palace and fortress at once; in 1438 Filippo Brunelleschi came to give advice, spending a couple of months in Rimini looking at the Malatesta fortresses. To make room around it the baptistery, a convent and the bishop's palace were demolished. Today the central core remains, with the massive square towers and the sloping walls that once rose from the moat, now a lawn; over the entrance is the coat of arms with the elephant's head and Sigismondo's name in Gothic letters. Sigismondo died here in October 1468. Since 2021 the sixteen rooms of the castle have been the main seat of the Fellini Museum: in the courtyard Alberto Sordi sits on the swing, as in The White Sheik, and inside are the reconstructed sets, the drawings, the costumes, the photographs and the films. Since November 2025 there have also been panels by the University of Bologna along the route telling the history of the castle. piazzetta San Martino, 47921 Rimini (RN)

the museum that Rimini has dedicated to Federico Fellini, opened in August 2021, spread over three places a stone's throw from each other. The first is Castel Sismondo (the point above). The second is the Palazzo del Fulgor, the Palazzo Valloni on the Corso d'Augusto, with the façade by Giuseppe Valadier, where since 1920 there has been the Fulgor cinema, the cinema in which Fellini as a child saw his first film, Maciste all'inferno, and which he later put into Roma and Amarcord: it reopened in 2018 with sets by Dante Ferretti, and still shows films. On the upper floors the museum continues, with the Cinemino, the little cinema, and you enter the museum from the piazzetta San Martino, where, on the floor of blue and green glass, the sea of Rimini from the drawings of the Book of Dreams, stands the rhinoceros from And the Ship Sails On. The third is piazza Malatesta, the piazza dei Sogni, the square of dreams, between the castle and the Teatro Galli, which is open air and free: the veil of water with the jets of mist that recall the passing of the Rex in Amarcord, the Circo della vita, the circus of life, with the big round bench in the middle, and Tonino Guerra's bosco dei nomi, the wood of names, the stone flowers bearing the names of his friends from the cinema. At the far end, going down along the green moat, is the open-air arena Francesca da Rimini. The guided tours in the calendar, only at Castel Sismondo and only in Italian, cost 8 euros and are booked on the website

Square · free entry · 44.06075, 12.56600

the civic heart of the city, which was the second forum of Roman Rimini. On one side the shops and cafés, on the other the government buildings: Palazzo Garampi, the seat of the Comune, the Palazzo dell'Arengo, from Rimini's Middle Ages, and the Palazzo del Podestà. In the middle of the square the fontana della Pigna, the pine cone fountain, and the statue of Pope Paul V, at the far end the Teatro Galli. On the left side, coming from the Corso, you go into the Vecchia Pescheria, the old fish market, the loggia that Giovan Francesco Buonamici built in 1747, with the long benches of Istrian stone where fish was sold and the four dolphins at the corners that spouted water to wash it: today the Pescheria and the nearby piazzetta delle poveracce are the place for bars and for young people in the evening. Behind the Palazzo del Podestà the bell tower of the old cathedral of Santa Colomba is still standing

Piazza Tre Martiri

Square · free entry · 44.05937, 12.56840

the forum of Roman Rimini, at the crossing of the decumanus, today's Corso d'Augusto, and the cardo, the main north-south street, today via Garibaldi and via IV Novembre; a Renaissance sun in the paving marks the point where they cross, the navel of the city. For centuries it was the square of the vegetable market, and the porticoes recall it. Today's name comes from three young partisans, Mario Cappelli, Luigi Nicolò and Adelio Pagliarani, executed here on 16 August 1944: a marble slab marks the spot. On the square are the Torre dell'Orologio, the clock tower, from 1547, which since 1750 has also had the dial with the calendar, the zodiac and the phases of the moon, the cippus, the stone pillar, recalling Julius Caesar's speech to the legions after crossing the Rubicon, with the bronze statue of Caesar, a copy of a Roman original, and the little temple of Sant'Antonio. It is the square for the evening stroll, for bars and pastry shops

the Roman house of a doctor, who came from the East and lived in the third century, discovered by chance in the spring of 1989, when uprooting a tree in the gardens of piazza Ferrari brought to light pieces of fresco and mosaic among the roots. Since December 2007 it has been visited by walking on transparent walkways suspended above the excavations. The heart of the house is the surgery, the taberna medica, with a consulting room and a room for short stays: a fire buried it with everything that was inside, mosaics, plaster, furniture and the surgical kit, forceps, scalpels, chisels, probes and scales, one of the most complete sets of Roman instruments known, now on display in the Museo della Città, a stone's throw away. Above the domus you see the later periods: a palace of the fifth or sixth century with coloured mosaics, a Byzantine house, the medieval tombs. It works with children: history is seen under your feet

via Luigi Tonini 1, 47921 Rimini (RN)

the town museum, in the eighteenth-century Jesuit College, next to the Domus del Chirurgo, which tells the story of Rimini from prehistory to today: from the flint chipped on the beach by early humans to Roman archaeology, with the surgeon's instrument kit and the rare little painted glass picture, the pinax, that adorned his house, and the mosaics of the ancient city. The picture gallery has the painters of the fourteenth-century Rimini school, who worked on Giotto's lesson, and works from the time of the Malatesta, by Giovanni Bellini, Ghirlandaio, Agostino di Duccio; then the seventeenth century of Guido Cagnacci and Guercino. In 2026, with the upper floors closed for works, only the ground floor and the archaeological section are open. Until 31 December 2026 there is the exhibition Il codice della Passione, the code of the Passion, with a panel by Giovanni Bellini next to the San Sebastiano by Andrea Mantegna

Borgo San Giuliano

Village · free entry · 44.06500, 12.56388

the fishermen's quarter beyond the Bridge of Tiberius, which grew up around the year 1000 outside the walls, on the bank of the Marecchia. The houses are low and colourful, humble buildings with a medieval feel, today all restored and sought after, in narrow alleys that open into little squares with their old names: San Giuliano, del Pozzetto, degli Ortaggi, Gabena, Padella, Pirinela. It is the quarter associated with Fellini, and on the walls of the houses there are murals painted by artists from Rimini with scenes from his films and his characters: they are recent works, and you discover them as you wander through the alleys. In the evening the borgo fills up: the osterie with Romagna cooking and tables outside, the piazza sull'acqua under the bridge, the footbridge over the basin. In even years the Società de' Borg holds the Festa de' Borg, when the little squares become stages, with street theatre, music and old-style cooking

Roman Amphitheatre

Monument · 44.06022, 12.57545

via Roma angolo via Vezia, 47921 Rimini (RN)

the third of Rimini's Roman monuments, east of the centre, towards the sea, built in the second century AD for gladiator fights: a coin of Hadrian found in the mortar dates it to the middle of the century. It was an ellipse of 117.7 by 88 metres, with an arena of 76.40 by 47.40, almost as big as that of the Colosseum, and held from ten to twelve thousand spectators. In the late Empire it was enclosed within the walls and became a fortress, then a stone quarry and a lazaretto, a quarantine hospital; the bombing of the war did the rest, and on part of the area the Centro Educativo Italo Svizzero, an Italian-Swiss school, was built. Today you can see the walls of the arena, one of the main entrances and a few of the accesses to the tiers, which you look at from the cycle path in via Roma, among the greenery, coming from the Arch of Augustus along the walls. Guided tours inside the area are organised by the municipal museums, and start from the Museo della Città, where a step with seat numbers and the coin of Hadrian are on display

Teatro Amintore Galli

Monument · 44.06017, 12.56486

piazza Cavour, 47921 Rimini (RN)

the municipal theatre, at the far end of piazza Cavour, designed by Luigi Poletti as a temple of music and opened in 1857 with the premiere of Giuseppe Verdi's Aroldo. The bombs of 1943 destroyed the auditorium and the stage and left standing only the front block with the foyer; the city rebuilt it as it was, from 2014 to October 2018, with modern stage machinery. In the foyer, which reopened in 2015, the piano Verdi played at the opening is back; during the works the remains of an early Christian basilica came to light, and today they are in the archaeological area under the theatre. Since 1947 it has been named after the composer Amintore Galli

Grand Hotel and the Parco Fellini

Monument · 44.07273, 12.57661

parco Federico Fellini, 47921 Rimini (RN)

the white hotel in the Liberty style, the Italian Art Nouveau, on the seafront of Marina Centro, opened on 1 July 1908 to a design by the Swiss architect Paolito Somazzi: the two domes that crowned it burned in a fire in the summer of 1920 and were never rebuilt. It is the symbol of the Rimini of the beach establishments, and Fellini, who was fascinated by it from childhood, put it into Amarcord. In front of it is the Parco Federico Fellini, with its paths and, in the middle, the fontana dei Quattro Cavalli, the fountain of the four horses, four sea horses that spout water from their nostrils, sculpted by Filogenio Fabbri and inaugurated on 29 June 1928: dismantled in 1954, it went back to its place in 1983. The hotel is private and is seen from outside. Fellini was born not far away, in the family house in viale Dardanelli. Next to it, at piazzale Fellini 3, is the tourist information office of Marina Centro, telephone 0541 53399

The beach of Marina Centro

Beach · 44.07767, 12.57637

Rimini's beach, which runs from the harbour south as far as Miramare and north as far as Torre Pedrera: according to Wikipedia it is 15 kilometres long and up to 200 metres wide, of fine sand, and the sea floor slopes very gently, which is just what you need with small children. Seaside tourism in Rimini was born here, with the Stabilimento dei Bagni of 1843 and the Kursaal of 1872, and the beach is almost all divided between the beach establishments, the numbered bagni with the umbrella, the sunbeds, the games and the lifeguard. There are stretches of free beach in Marina Centro too, like the one next to the harbour pier, in piazzale Boscovich. Behind it runs the seafront of the Parco del Mare, and parallel to it viale Vespucci, with bars, shops and night spots

Parco del Mare and the Belvedere of piazzale Kennedy

Walk · free entry · 44.06707, 12.58239

piazzale Kennedy, 47921 Rimini (RN)

Rimini's new seafront, the project with which the Comune is remaking, one stretch at a time, the 16 kilometres of the sea front: less asphalt and more greenery, with dunes and coastal plants, cycle and footpaths, play areas for children and spaces for sport. North of the harbour, from Torre Pedrera to Rivabella, there are already more than 6 kilometres for pedestrians, with the "piazzette di comunità", the community squares, open-air sitting rooms with a view of the sea, and free wifi. To the south there are the isole fitness, the open-air gyms free for everyone, and in piazzale Kennedy the Belvedere, a new square on the sea that rises to six or eight metres and hides beneath it the great tank of the system that protects the sea water from the drains; next to it the Wellness Tree, the seven metre tree with exercise equipment, and the Rimini Beach Court, the colourful court for beach games. By bicycle, early in the morning or in the evening, it is the nicest way to get from one beach establishment to another

The canal harbour and the lighthouse

Walk · free entry · 44.07408, 12.57395

via Destra del Porto, 47921 Rimini (RN)

the city's harbour, made in the last stretch of the mouth of the Marecchia, which separates Marina Centro from San Giuliano Mare. On the right bank, in piazzale Boscovich, stands the white lighthouse, built in 1754 and more than 27 metres tall, which opens to the public only on special days such as the Giornata del Mare, the Day of the Sea, on 11 April. The pier, the palata, is the favourite walk of the people of Rimini: you go right to the end, with the view along the coast from Gabicce to Cervia, and it is here that Fellini imagined the night-time passing of the liner Rex in Amarcord. From the quays the boats go out to fish for poveracce, the clams, and come back at sunset with the gulls behind them; at the tip of the eastern pier is the Sposa del marinaio, the sailor's bride, by Umberto Corsucci, which remembers the women who waited for the fishermen and those who did not come back. On the other bank are the boatyards and the Marina di Rimini tourist harbour

Events

The year in Rimini begins in January with SIGEP at the trade fair and ends with the longest New Year's Eve in the world, which fills the centre and the beach for a month. In March, on the evening before San Giuseppe, the fogheracce, the bonfires, are lit on the beach, and at Easter the Paganello brings frisbee to the sand. Then the summer: it begins in June with the Notte Rosa, which turns the whole Riviera pink, and at the end of August comes the Meeting. In September, in even years, the Borgo San Giuliano holds its festival, and in mid October the city celebrates its patron saint, San Gaudenzo, with the tombola, the bingo, in the square. Remember

Useful tips

  • The motorhome stays put: in Rimini you get about by bicycle along the Parco del Mare, on the Metromare between the station and Riccione (2 euros for one zone, 5 euros for 24 hours) and on foot in the centre. From the Settebello car park the Arch of Augustus is ten minutes' walk away and the station five hundred metres
  • You cannot drive into the centre with the motorhome: the ZTL of the historic centre and the Borgo San Giuliano has thirteen camera gates, and since 29 January 2026 the fine arrives by itself. In summer the northern seafront, from Rivabella to Torre Pedrera, is also a ZTL day and night. The motorhome stays on its wheels, with no tables or chairs outside: the Comune considers it occupation of public land
  • In summer, book, above all in the weeks when the city is full: the Notte Rosa in June, the Meeting at the end of August, and the big trade fairs (SIGEP in January, RiminiWellness in May, TTG in October, Ecomondo in November). Camper Park Rimini and Camping Riccione can be booked on their websites; the Parking delle Robinie, at Igea Marina, closes at the end of September
  • Out of season you sleep close to the centre: the Settebello and the Marina di Rimini are open all year, day and night, and Camper Park Rimini reopens for the Immacolata and for Christmas and New Year. For the sand nativity scene and New Year, in Marina Centro and in the centre, you go on foot or by bicycle. With a diesel up to Euro 4, in winter, from Monday to Friday during the day you cannot drive between the statale 16 and the sea
  • For San Marino the motorhome can stay in Rimini: the shuttle leaves from the station and from the Arch of Augustus every day of the year, 7 euros a journey, about 55 minutes; anyone who prefers to sleep outside Rimini has SantarCamper, half an hour by road from San Marino and seven minutes by train from Rimini
  • At the Fellini Museum young people go in free: since 5 May 2026 the Fellini Museum, the Museo della Città and the Domus del Chirurgo have been free up to and including the age of 30, and a family pays only for the parents' tickets. On Wednesdays the Fellini Museum costs 8 euros for everyone and the Museo della Città and the Domus 5; among the agreements for the reduced 5 euro ticket at the Fellini Museum is the Associazione Produttori Caravan e Camper, and it is worth asking at the ticket desk
  • The city's museums close on Mondays, and Castel Sismondo also closes at lunchtime, from 13:00 to 16:00: in the summer heat the good plan is the sea early in the morning and the cool of the museum rooms in the afternoon, or the centre in the evening
  • On summer Wednesday evenings, from the last week of June and all through July and August, the Museo della Città and the Domus del Chirurgo also stay open from 21:00 to 23:00, and on Tuesdays from 16:00 entry to the Palazzo del Fulgor is free for the screenings of Fellini's films in the Cinemino
  • In the evening go to the harbour and the Borgo: the walk along the palata to the lighthouse, the piazza sull'acqua under the Bridge of Tiberius, the alleys of the Borgo San Giuliano with the murals; the centre, the borgo and the bridge are pedestrian
  • For the parks, buy the ticket online: at Italia in Miniatura, Aquafan and Oltremare it costs a few euros less than at the ticket office, and children up to one metre go in free. With 5 euros more at Italia in Miniatura and Oltremare, 10 at Aquafan, you can come back for a second day in the same season

Rimini · part two

and then?

What to do, what to taste, and where to go tomorrow.

Taste

Rimini eats like the rest of Romagna, with the sea on top. The piadina, the flatbread of Romagna, is its bread: here it is made alla riminese, wider and thinner than the Ravenna one, soft, with the big bubbles from cooking, and you buy it hot at the kiosks, with squacquerone, the soft fresh cheese, and rocket, with prosciutto, with wild greens; folded and filled it becomes the cassone. The pasta is the rolled egg pasta: passatelli, strands of breadcrumbs, cheese and egg, in broth, cappelletti, tagliatelle and strozzapreti, twisted by hand, with ragù. Then the fish of the Adriatic, which here means oily fish: the mixed grill with mackerel, saraghine, which are sprats, and sardoncini, as anchovies are called here, skewers cooked over the embers, poveracce, the small clams that come in through the harbour, cuttlefish with peas and canocchia, the mantis shrimp. To drink, Sangiovese and the wines of the Colli di Rimini DOC, among them Rebola, the white of the hills, dry, medium sweet or passito, made from dried grapes.
