A weekend in the Langhe
from the hill of La Morra down to the town of Alba, by way of the castle of Barolo and Cavour's castle, on the second weekend of the Truffle Fair
The itinerary
For each day you find on one side what we saw and did, on the other where we slept.
A long weekend that comes down from the hills to the town, one stop a day. You arrive on Thursday evening below La Morra, the balcony of the Langhe, spend Friday in Barolo and sleep among the vineyards of Vergne, climb up to Cavour's castle at Grinzane on Saturday and are in Alba by evening, where the town's districts party until midnight. Sunday is the town, on the second weekend of the Truffle Fair, and you set off home in the early afternoon.
La Morra
October 15 · Thursday eveningarrival in the evening at the Laghetto area, below the village, which you can enter at any hour. It has electricity, fresh water and a waste dump. It is poorly kept, but it does for one night. The motorhome community sites give it as open until November, and a phone call to 327 5441063 settles the doubt. La Morra is seen on Friday morning: the Sentiero n. 1 trail passes the area and climbs along the ramparts to Piazza Castello, four hundred metres away. The belvedere over the Barolo crus with its table naming the villages, the tower built with the stones of the castle, via Umberto I, and the Cantina Comunale, which opens at 10am. The tourist office in Piazza Martiri is open on Fridays and hands out the trail map.

Barolo
October 16 · Fridayafter lunch you drive down towards Barolo, passing below the Cappella del Barolo, in the Brunate vineyard. The Ceretto family gave it as closed for works until autumn 2026, with no date: check their website first, and from outside you can see it anyway. In Barolo the motorhome stays in the car park on via Alba, down in the valley, and you walk up along the pedestrian road, one kilometre with a steep climb at the end. The WiMu, the wine museum in the castle, closes at 7pm with last entry at 6:00pm: 9 euros, with the noble floor of the Marchesa Giulia and Silvio Pellico's room. The visit ends in the cellars of the Enoteca Regionale, open on Fridays until 6pm, where you taste on your own with a card. With the WiMu ticket the Corkscrew Museum, opposite, costs 2 euros. For the night, three kilometres by road to Camping Sole Langhe, in the hamlet of Vergne, on the other side of the valley: the pitches stand among hazelnut trees and vines, and 150 metres away there are a bakery and a restaurant. Two people spend between 36 and 44 euros, with electricity and waste dump. The pitch must be left by noon.
