The Prosecco hills, from Conegliano to Valdobbiadene

the Strada del Prosecco among the Rive and Cartizze, the Osteria senz'oste among the vineyards, the Muro di Ca' del Poggio and the wine fairs in the villages, in a UNESCO landscape since 2019

a full dayDuration
all year, best from March to June and at the grape harvestWhen to go

Between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, north of Treviso, a row of narrow, steep hills runs from east to west below the Prealps, and on their south-facing slopes glera is grown, the grape of Prosecco Superiore. The slopes are so steep that the vineyards are worked almost entirely by hand, on grassy terraces, the ciglioni, and in 2019 UNESCO listed this landscape as a World Heritage Site. You go round it in a day following the Strada del Prosecco, the Prosecco road, the first wine road in Italy: from Conegliano you pass below the Muro di Ca' del Poggio, the climb of the Giro d'Italia, cross the Rive of Col San Martino and Guia, and reach Cartizze, the most prized 107 hectares of the appellation, where the Osteria senz'oste, the inn without an innkeeper, sells wine and cheese with nobody behind the counter, and you pay by yourself. The motorhome stays at Valdobbiadene, at the municipal area, and you walk up to Cartizze. In spring, from March to June, the villages of the hills take turns to open their wine fairs.

Getting there

From Conegliano to Valdobbiadene the motorhome travels on the provincial roads through the villages, not on the lanes among the vineyards: the Muro di Ca' del Poggio and the roads of Cartizze are done on foot or by bicycle.

  • The motorhome sleeps at the municipal area of Valdobbiadene, in via della Pace, about 850 metres from the centre: 16 pitches with electricity, a barrier and an automatic till; according to the Pro Loco you pay 10 euros a day for parking and 5 euros for filling and emptying only (half an hour at most), by debit or credit card. It is open all year, day and night, except the second weekend of March, when the Fiera di San Gregorio, the fair, is held
  • To stay on the plain, below the hills, there is the provincial road 34, which runs along the Piave from Falzè to Vidor; from Valdobbiadene the provincial road 36 climbs to San Pietro di Barbozza and Santo Stefano and continues to Guia, and it is the stretch of the Strada del Prosecco that crosses Cartizze
  • The Muro di Ca' del Poggio, at San Pietro di Feletto, is one kilometre and a hundred metres of climb at 12.3% on average, with peaks of 19%: you do not drive up it in a motorhome. At the top is the Ca' del Poggio restaurant
  • At the Osteria senz'oste the car park is small, about a hundred metres from the path that leads to the farmhouse: on weekdays you leave the car among the rows of vines, on public holidays the owners open extra car parks, signposted. The motorhome does not go there: from the Valdobbiadene area to San Pietro di Barbozza it is a couple of kilometres, and from there to the Osteria another one
  • On three days of the Primavera del Prosecco the free minibus of the fairs goes round the villages: in 2026 on 26 April, 1 and 3 May, with one line from Conegliano and one from Valdobbiadene, and you get on and off at every stop

Practical information

A tour by motorhome and a stretch on foot: choose a winery, the Osteria and a viewpoint, and check the day of the week, because on Tuesdays and Sunday afternoons something is closed.

Duration a whole day. The Anello del Prosecco on foot is 8.8 kilometres, with 364 metres of climb, and the Pro Loco gives it two hours fifty minutes; a winery visit lasts from an hour to an hour and a half

When to go all year, best from March to June and at the grape harvest

Suitable for families; on the Bortolomiol visit children do not pay, at the Osteria senz'oste there are hard-boiled eggs and orangeade, and dogs on a lead are allowed. With a pushchair or a wheelchair the climb to the Osteria is very tiring, according to the owners: you get as far as the courtyard, from where you see the view

Booking winery visits yes, all of them, and at Andreola at least a week ahead; the Osteria senz'oste no, and tables cannot be reserved; the wine fairs no

Notes

  • The tourist office is that of the Consorzio delle Pro Loco del Valdobbiadenese, in piazza Marconi 1 at Valdobbiadene: Monday to Saturday from 9:30 to 12:30 and from 15:00 to 18:00, on Sundays from 9:30 to 12:30. It gives out the map of the wineries, the list of bicycle hire shops and the tracks of the paths
  • The tour in a day, from Conegliano: the Strada del Prosecco begins at the Scuola Enologica, which is in the Conegliano page. At San Pietro di Feletto the Muro di Ca' del Poggio and the pieve, the old parish church, with the twelfth century fresco of the Cristo della domenica, the Sunday Christ, on the facade, surrounded by the farmers' tools. Then Refrontolo, Pieve di Soligo and Farra di Soligo, Col San Martino with Andreola, the Rive of Guia, and Cartizze between Santo Stefano and San Pietro di Barbozza. You reach Valdobbiadene in the early afternoon, leave the motorhome at the area and walk up. The Molinetto della Croda, Follina, Cison di Valmarino and Vittorio Veneto are described with Conegliano
  • The Muro di Ca' del Poggio: since 2009 the climb has been in the Giro d'Italia nine times, the last on 28 May 2026, and on 31 May 2026 the Giro d'Italia Women passed over it too. It reaches 242 metres; along the road there is a marker stone by the sculptor Valentino Moro with the maximum gradient, 19%
  • The Rive: in the local speech they are the steep slopes of the hills. On the bottles the word Rive says that the grapes all come from one municipality or one hamlet, from the steepest vineyards, and were picked by hand. The Consorzio points out the Rive of Guia, on the road between Col San Martino and Valdobbiadene, for their views
  • Cartizze is also called the Pentagono d'oro, the golden pentagon: the vineyards all face south and on the steepest terraces the work is done by hand. Among the vineyards is the Colesèl viewpoint; in the hamlet of Follo there is a sundial dedicated to the abbot Giovanni Follador, an astronomer, born there in 1785
  • The Osteria senz'oste, at strada delle Treziese 4, is a stone and brick farmhouse from the end of the nineteenth century among the vineyards of Cartizze. Inside there are cheeses, cured meats, hard-boiled eggs, pickles, bread, grissini, coffee and orangeade, with the price on the label; the wine is in refrigerated dispensers on Cima Cartizze, and you pay at the automatic till. The tables are outside, along the path that climbs to the top. It is open every day of the year, from 8:00 to 22:00; inside you pay only in cash, two of the dispensers take cards. You do not bring food or drink from outside, because it is not a picnic area, and there are no hot dishes. It began when the owner, Cesare De Stefani, left three bottles of Cartizze, six glasses and a note with the price, 10 euros a bottle, in the farmhouse. The place next door is not part of the Osteria
  • The viewpoint: from the little church of Sant'Alberto, above San Pietro di Barbozza, the Consorzio says that on clear days you can see the Venice lagoon, the Euganean Hills and the Berici Hills. You get there by an easy dirt road from the village oratory, and come down by path 1019A to the sanctuary of the Immacolata di Lourdes, with the friars' convent
  • The Anello del Prosecco Superiore, the Prosecco Superiore loop, starts from San Pietro di Barbozza and goes round between Santo Stefano and Saccol, on the lanes among the vineyards of Cartizze, passing the Osteria senz'oste and Sant'Alberto: 8.8 kilometres, 364 metres of climb. The track can be downloaded from the Pro Loco's page. It can be walked all year, and the Consorzio recommends March to October
  • The Cammino delle Colline del Prosecco is UNESCO's long trail: 51 kilometres from Vidor to Vittorio Veneto along the ridges, with 2,265 metres of climb, in four stages, waymarked with signs and yellow and red paint. The Associazione per il Patrimonio delle Colline also publishes forty other short routes, among them the Pentagono d'oro of Cartizze
  • By bicycle: the Pro Loco publishes a 65 kilometre ride from piazza Marconi, with 783 metres of climb, through Farra di Soligo, Follina, Cison and the lakes of Revine
  • Bortolomiol, at Valdobbiadene, is one of the big houses, and welcomes visitors in the Parco della Filandetta, in via della Filandeta, inside Valdobbiadene: an organic vineyard with works of contemporary art among the rows. The Tour della Filandetta, in 2026, costs 30 euros per person and is free for children: an hour, in Italian, English or German, with the cellar, the walk in the park and three glasses with something to eat. The winery tells the story of Giuliano Bortolomiol, who in the 1950s bet on brut Prosecco when nobody was making it. The shop and the tasting room are open on Mondays and Wednesday to Saturday from 9:30 to 12:30 and from 14:00 to 18:00, on Sundays from 10:00 to 12:30; it is closed on Tuesdays. You book on the website, by email (parcodellafilandetta@bortolomiol.com) or on +39 0423 804258
  • Andreola, at Col San Martino, is a family winery, and the Rive of Col San Martino are its own. The Basic visit, an hour with five Valdobbiadene DOCG wines and a savoury snack, costs 25 euros; the Personal, an hour and a half with the cellar up to the bottling, 35 euros; the price list does not give the year. Visits start at 10:00, 10:30, 11:00, 11:30 and from 14:00 to 16:00 every half hour, on Sundays not at 14:00 and 14:30; at least two people, booked a week ahead on the website. In the cellar it is 10 degrees all year; dogs stay in the shop. For children the form asks how many there are, but does not give a price. Telephone +39 0438 989379
  • Col Vetoraz, at strada delle Treziese 1, is the winery at the top of Cartizze, a stone's throw from the Osteria, with a reception room overlooking the vineyards. It is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 18:00, on Saturdays from 10:00 to 18:00 and on Sundays from 10:00 to 16:00; the tasting routes are only by booking (accoglienza@colvetoraz.it), and bottles can be bought without one
  • The Primavera del Prosecco Superiore: from March to June the villages of the hills take turns to open their wine fairs, with sommeliers at the counter, food and walks. The fairs began more than fifty years ago: the first Mostra dello Spumante di Valdobbiadene dates from 1963. In 2026 it began at Santo Stefano (from 13 to 20 and from 27 to 29 March), in the red house in the centre of the village, with home-made gnocchi; then San Pietro di Barbozza (from 4 to 19 April, with spiedo, the spit-roast, and the Quatro Pass, a walk between the hamlets with food stops), Col San Martino (from 8 to 26 April), San Giovanni, Ogliano, Colbertaldo, Miane, Guia and Refrontolo between April and May, Combai with its Verdiso wine in May, and San Pietro di Feletto, the last, from 30 May to 14 June. At Santo Stefano it was closed on Mondays. The 2027 dates come out on the Primavera website
  • For children: the wooden sculptures of VignArte, among the vineyards of San Pietro di Barbozza, which can be seen all year; the Osteria senz'oste, where you serve yourself; the cyclists on the Muro in the weeks of the Giro. A detour to the east, to Tarzo, leads to the Leone alato, the winged lion by Marco Martalar, on the shore of the lake of Revine: more than seven metres high and ten long, made with more than three thousand pieces of roots and trunks felled by storm Vaia and with vine shoots. You reach it only on foot, the nearest car park is the one at Fratta, 400 metres away, and you do not touch it or climb on it
  • In autumn, after the harvest, at Combai, above Miane, the October weekends belong to the Festa dei Marroni, the chestnut festival, with roast chestnuts, walks in the chestnut woods and workshops for children on Saturdays
  • On Sundays and in winter: on Sunday afternoons Bortolomiol is closed, and it is closed all day on Tuesdays; Col Vetoraz is open until 16:00, the Osteria senz'oste every day until 22:00, the tourist office only in the morning. In winter the vines are bare and there are no fairs; the Osteria and the wineries stay open. The motorhome area closes on the second weekend of March, for the Fiera di San Gregorio. Whoever drives does not drink: go to the Osteria and the wineries on foot from Valdobbiadene
