A journey through France
from Paris to the Channel and Mont-Saint-Michel, then the châteaux of the Loire and the vineyards of Sancerre, in two spring weeks
The itinerary
For each day you find on one side what we saw and did, on the other where we slept.
Two spring weeks in France, from Mont Blanc and back. It is a proposed journey with 2027 dates: the days line up what the pages on each place say, the stopovers open at the end of April, the closing days, what has to be booked. It begins with one night in Troyes and four around Paris: two with the motorhome at the city's campsite and the city covered by metro, one at Versailles for the palace and one near Disneyland. Then it goes up to the North Sea, to Dunkirk and to Calais with the two capes of the Côte d'Opale, and comes down along the Channel: the cliffs of Étretat, the harbour of Honfleur, Mont-Saint-Michel. The way back passes through the Loire, with Amboise and Chenonceau, and through the vineyards of Sancerre, and the last night is in Beaune.
Troyes
April 24 · Saturdaythe longest stage of the journey. From the French entrance of the Mont Blanc tunnel to Troyes it is 510 kilometres, about six hours by motorhome, and the road from Italy to the tunnel comes on top. You sleep at the municipal stopover of Pont-Sainte-Marie, open all year, with electricity, water and emptying but no toilets: with the 2026 price list, from April 16 euros for 24 hours plus the tourist tax, and you enter and pay at the terminal by card. If you arrive in time, the cathedral is half an hour away on foot, or eleven minutes by bus 1 plus a stretch on foot; on the October 2026 timetable the bus runs from Monday to Saturday until 20:50, and does not run on Sundays.
